A Real Cluster-Fuck

Accentuated eccentric loading, velocity based training, and clusters….oohh baby. This week’s episode with Dr. John Wagle [@drjohnpwagle] will satisfy your need for speed. Hear how he studied the squat as a vehicle for testing velocity. His method was tested using weight releasers and cluster sets and what he found was that adding 30 seconds rest within each rep allowed the athlete to continue smashing the weight at a relatively high velocity. But the practice isn’t quite as simple as it sounds.

When Dr. Wagle refers to quality he’s talking about good movement performed at high velocity. Clusters allow for some rest which permits the athlete to repeat this quality more times than the traditional set/rep scheme. We are all about speed in performance and sexy movement so having Dr. Wagle’s ear for this week’s episode was killer. His personal and professional background in baseball helped illuminate the importance of weight training in a sport heavily dependent on specialized skill. As he states, the training allows the athlete to endure 100+ games and repetitive movement patterns. Without it, the longevity of the specialist suffers. Listen NOW!

EMPOWER YOUR PERFORMANCE.

We are just days away from this year’s Power Athlete Symposium which means that I’m going to have to fill this outro with something else very soon. It will probably be 2018 Symposium recaps followed by 2019 PA Symposium promos. Until next time….byeeeee!
